Pankaj Sadavarte completed his PhD in atmospheric science at the Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay with a dissertation on "Technology-linked emissions inventory and atmospheric modelling of short-lived climate pollutants over India". Before starting his journey as a researcher, he worked as a chemical engineer and, prior to that, as a production engineer in the chemical industry. Over the course of his doctoral research he successfully worked towards developing a technology-linked speciated emissions inventory for India for the years 1996 to 2015, which included aerosols (PM2.5, BC, OC, and SO2), ozone precursors (NOX, CO, and NMVOC), and greenhouse gases (CO2, CH4, and N2O). For the past year, he has been involved in the Global Burden of Disease - Major Air pollution Sources (GBD-MAPS) project aimed at providing present-day (2013) emissions for India and assisting with building scenarios for future projections of energy and emissions. At the IASS, he has joined the SusKat project and will be working on developing an emissions inventory for Nepal that should enhance our understanding of pollution sources and emissions and facilitate the design of appropriate mitigation measures.
